Debut single ‘Why’ from London’s Y is a wonderful first step for the collective
The fast-paced, groovy single has a lot to love sonically and provides a great first impression for the group.
Y, rising up out of the historical musical hotspot that is London, England, are not complete strangers to the music world, having been around as far back as 2023. However, they are new to the record label and streaming world as their first single may be their first introduction to those not entirely familiar with the underground music scene in the London area. They’re one of ten artists currently with the Hideous Mink Records label, being given their first shot under a label to make some waves, back in October of 2024.
This first release is a wave maker, for sure. The song commences with some absolutely killer saxophone play, backed by an equally killer bassline among some other instruments that don’t overpower the main “voice” within the song: the previously mentioned saxophone. This track is mostly instrumental, with some vocals of the question “Why?” being put in there from time to time. It’s dynamic, a controlled chaos that doesn’t do too much, but does just enough to keep you intrigued for the runtime of the song; the three minutes go by in a flash.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the group to have taken advantage of (and they have taken advantage of it well), and this track will not only stick with listeners on streaming services, but will be an absolute joy to hear live, as the fast-paced nature of this song will surely spark joy into those at a live venue.
Why is out now via Hideous Mink Records.
