South West and Wales-based indie-alt outfit Airflo — made up of James Wilson, Aled Owen, Tom Wilson, Matt Evans and former GETRZ frontman Joshua Heather — charm us with their first release Weak Smile under this new line up. Airflo’s distinctive nostalgic ‘90s influences in this track, along with their own already established sound, are heard throughout, and it’s just something you know is going to hit different across the festival circuit this summer.

The guitars are front and centre throughout, immediately grabbing your attention along with the gritty one-liner words that you can hear repeated throughout the track. Joshua’s grunge-led vocals match the raw energy of the heavy guitars, especially when belting out the chorus “With a weak smile / it is over again / in the mean time / I’ll turn to a friend.” Love the emphasis on the title track itself, there’s a real appeal to it continuously drawing back to that title; the kind of song that will be left repeating over in your mind. The instruments are built up in stand out instrumental moments that create a shoegazy, grunge atmospheric feel that leaves you wanting more.

This is a band that you can tell are already so in tune with one another and in just a short space of time can easily be fronting the bills at many gigs and festivals. After listening to Weak Smile, you can see that they aren’t here to mess about, Airflo are here to disrupt the scene and in the most welcomed way.

With plays already on 6Music, BBC Introducing and Radio X along with numerous dates to catch them across the UK this year, whatever you do, make sure you make it one, you won’t regret it!
