Psych quartet Dreamwave chisel out swaggering rock track ‘Polystyrene Irene’

The band share a new, punchy track.

Polystyrene Irene, though paying homage to the Beatles’ track from Abbey Road, bears little resemblance to easy Merseyside pop. With fuzzy riffs, barked vocals and bursts of garage rock fervour, Dreamwave’s latest release is as relentless as a riot shield to the face, with the same headbang-induced whiplash.

At two-and-a-half minutes in length, Polystyrene Irene is on the shorter side but packed to the back teeth with blood-soaked, grungy venom. It’s bluesy psych meets anarchic punk, and it hits like a hammer, making for unapologetically one of the standout tracks of the year.

Polystyrene Irene is out now via Velvet Echoes Records.
